The German artist Carlo Demand (1921–2000) illustrated more books than any other artist, yet his name is not nearly as well known as that of many of his contemporaries or as the quality of his work would indicate. The volume goes on to reproduce a sixty-three work selection of Carlo's colorful gouache paintings, all published for the first time. They depict in chronological order many of motor sports; most dramatic moments, from the very first race in 1895 through the 1956 Mille Miglia. Each painting is accompanied by a highly informative narrative, providing the historical context of the moment depicted, the atmosphere of the event. Published 2007.
