This is a history of the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow and the other models that were associated with it in the same time period, roughly the 1960s and 1970s.  This book was published in 1979.  For a relatively short book it has a lot of details on the design and construction.

From the dust jacket:

John Bolster on the Silver Shadow is superb. In his position as one of the most experienced road test journalists in the world, no one can doubt the validity of his words; although he is not uncritical, he feels the car justifies its title of the best in the world. In this book, he proceeds to tell you not only why, but how and when.

The current V8 engined cars started in 1965 with a basic 4-door; either an R-R or Bentley radiator packaged them.

Numerous modification and badge changing has taken place over the years - all is described. The 'new' models are readily catalogued, and for the first time there is instant explanation of the differences between, say, the Camargue and Wraith II. The V8 engine and the air conditioning, those two components which have international recognition for their technical superiority, are described in detail. A full specification section - including prices, production and warranty information - is given in the Appendices.

In short, this is an authoritative and definitive history of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow and its derivatives

An Osprey AutoHistory is a fresh concept in motoring book publishing.

Each title is a careful synthesis of subject matter and both black and white and colour photography. They are written by a recognised talent and the photographs are collected and shot by an expert photographer. The book series is designed to present some of the world's most interesting and charismatic cars, initially from the post war years, to the appreciative enthusiast. Each book is to the highest possible quality in every aspect and it is hoped that each will be considered the 'standard' reading on a particular car or series of cars

JOHN BOLSTER has been mad about cars ever since his earliest childhood.

As a small boy, his favourite occupation was to hang around garages, where he acquired a splendid vocabulary from the mechanics. As soon as he was old enough, he started building his own cars, racing his home-made 'specials' with some success. After the war, he achieved his ambition of driving in Formula 1, but a near-fatal accident in the British Grand Prix ended his racing career.

After that, he did motor racing broadcasts for the BBC, became Technical Editor of Autosport, a position he still holds, and started writing books - about cars, of course. He has been a Rolls-Royce enthusiast for many years and maintains his 1911 Silver Ghost with loving care
