Book by Cockerham, Paul W. published 1996.
With his book "Lamborghini: the Spirit of the Bull" author Paul Cockerham has provided a fine survey of the subject of Lamborghini sports cars. In 80 short pages - including title pages and index - he provides a biography of company founder Ferrucio Lamborghini with interesting background information and photographs of the cars, from the one-off 350GTV, the 350GT, 3500GTZ, Miura, Jota, Espada, Jarama, Urraco, Silhouette and Diablo. Oh, and then there is the Countach. The famous Countach takes up probably a third of the book; through extensive photographs we see the sleek lines of the Gandini-designed LP400 transformed into the somewhat excessive (even by Lamborghini standards) LP500 with its expanded wheel arches and massive rear wing. Also covered are less-known experiments such as the Bravo, Portofino and the LM off-road vehicle,
The photographs are excellent and represent all the Lamborghini cars from various angles. The text is well-researched and gives limited technical information on each car and engine, but is not so extensive as to be distracting to readers not interested in engine displacement, carburetor type, transmission design and so on. I do feel that too much attention is given to the Countach, and would have preferred more coverage of the Urraco, Jarama and Silhouette; ideally each should have had its own chapter. But considering the enormous popularity of the Countach, I am sure the author was trying to give readers what he felt they wanted so I can't fault him for that. The history of the ups and downs of the Lamborghini company is fascinating reading, and is a worthy subject of a book all by itself; the author does a good job summarizing it.
