The Illustrated Volkswagen Buyer's Guide is an overview of pretty much the entire VW line of cars and vans, both air-cooled and water-cooled, from the first civilian Bug of 1946 through the VWs of the very early 90s (the book was published in 1993). As a buying guide, it is rather sparse, since it covers such a wide range of vehicles over so many years. Still, it contains many pictures, numerous facts ("After twelve years, the VW engine displacement was upped to 1300cc, or 1285cc to be precise, in 1966") and some interesting opinions ("Of all the Beetles, this one is the least desirable, but of all the Beetles, it is also the most practical"). The book is a general look at all the models and their histories, year-to-year changes and specifications. It is not all that detailed, but to someone just entering the VW field, or someone who wants to know something about an odd Volkswagen he finds for sale in someone's yard, it is a very nice book. Also, if you are not at all interested in buying a used VW but do want to know about the Volkswagen family, the book is an encapsulated look at the entire line--Bugs, convertibles, Karmann-Ghias, Transporters, the K70, the Golf, the Polo, the Rabbit and the rest of Wolfsburg's offerings--and in that regard is a very interesting read.
